Doylestown Auto Repairs Spring Maintenance

Seasonal Maintenance: Spring

Tags :

Check your spark plugs and wires. Your ignition system works hard. Spark plugs fire millions of times, and inefficient spark plugs can cost you performance and fuel mileage.

Check all your caps. Gas caps, radiator cap, brake fluids and more. Anywhere fluids are poured should be checked for a tight seal. This will keep out water and debris and keep your car running smoothly.

Clean your headlights. Road salt, harsh weather, grime and other debris can leave your headlights cloudy and dirty. Take some extra time and clean them up to give yourself greater visibility for night driving. You may need to have them professionally cleaned.

Signs Your Vehicle Needs a Check-Up

Tags :

Sluggish. Squealing. Unreliable. Vibrating. If any of these descriptors fit your vehicle’s recent behavior, it just might be trying to tell you something – like it’s time for a tune-up.

Today’s vehicles differ significantly from their decades-old brethren that required a tune-up every 10,000 or 20,000 miles. With newer vehicles, it’s increasingly common for manufacturer-recommended service intervals to stretch to 100,000 miles before certain maintenance items, such as replacing the spark plugs, should be completed.

How to Talk to Your Mechanic

Tags :

We’ve all experienced that fateful day when something in our engine started to clunk, the rear brake squealed, a strange whining came from somewhere or — horror of all horrors — the “check engine” light came on. Yup, we’ve all had to take our cars to the garage at some point. And even if you aren’t big on checkups and frequent fluid checks, there’s no denying your car some attention when it starts making strange noises or emitting strange odors. Perhaps even more dreaded than the orange light on your dash is the very first trip to the garage.

Waymo Autonomous Cars are heading the pack

Waymo test vehicles are requiring less human intervention, Calif. DMV says.

Waymo’s self-driving test vehicles are relying less on humans and are miles ahead of the pack when in comes to driver takeover rates, requiring a human take the wheel about 1,000 times less frequently than some competitors.

On Wednesday, the California Department of Motor Vehicles released its second annual summary of autonomous vehicle driver disengagement reports — defined as situations where a human must intervene while the car is in driverless mode. Waymo, the stand-alone self-driving technology company spun out from Google, reported a decrease in the rate of driver takeovers from 0.0008 per mile driven in 2015 to 0.0002 in 2016.
